Sikles Trek Overview
The Sikles trek is designed specifically for less experienced hikers or anyone who is motivated to see Nepal’s rural areas. This region has fallen far behind in terms of development. The Annapurna trekking routes are relatively near to the Sikles region. It is to Pokhara’s northeast. There aren’t many lodges and guest hotels along the road. It is therefore easy to understand why we decided to set up a camp for an overnight stay. At a height of 2000 meters, the lovely village of Sikles is perched on the edge of a hummock.
The Gurung village here is breathtaking. Houses made of mud and stones line the village’s winding pathways. A classic ribbon motif is used to group the homes. There are five other charming towns all around this one. Lama-thar, Sabha-thar, Harpu-thar, Dhaprang-tha, and Gari-thar are their names. The local community has a specific place for these villages. Despite the fact that this trip moves along rather slowly, there is still plenty of time to learn about the local flora and fauna. While traveling the route, you can observe some beautiful mountain vistas.
The Sikles trek offers a unique opportunity to experience the rural lifestyle and culture of the Gurung people. The warm hospitality and friendly nature of the locals make the trek even more special. The trail takes you through lush forests of rhododendron and oak trees, adding to the natural beauty of the journey. Along the way, you’ll have chances to spot various bird species and other wildlife.
As you ascend, the panoramic views of the Annapurna and Manaslu mountain ranges unfold before your eyes. The snow-capped peaks, including Annapurna II, Annapurna IV, Lamjung Himal, and Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), create a majestic backdrop. The changing colors of the mountains during sunrise and sunset are a sight to behold.
The Sikles trek offers a peaceful and less crowded experience compared to other popular treks in Nepal. The tranquility of the surroundings allows you to connect with nature and find moments of serenity along the way. The absence of modern amenities along the route enhances the sense of adventure and adds to the authentic experience of trekking in the remote areas of Nepal.
As you explore the villages and interact with the locals, you’ll gain insights into the traditional Gurung way of life. The cultural immersion and the opportunity to witness traditional practices and rituals make the trek culturally enriching. The simplicity and authenticity of the Gurung villages offer a glimpse into a way of life that has remained relatively untouched by modernity.
Overall, the Sikles trek is a beautiful journey that combines natural beauty, cultural exploration, and a sense of adventure. It is a perfect choice for those seeking a less crowded and off-the-beaten-path trekking experience while still enjoying the stunning landscapes and rich cultural heritage of the Annapurna region in Nepal.

Observing customary dances, musical presentations, and religious rituals provides visitors with an understanding of the social customs and spiritual beliefs of the people who live there.
The people along the Sikles Trek are renowned for their wonderful hospitality, sharing their way of life and inviting hikers into their homes. As visitors enjoy home-cooked meals with regional delicacies like sukuti (dried meat) and dhido (a traditional Nepali dish made from millet flour), homestays and tea houses provide possibilities for cultural exchange. In addition to offering a breathtaking journey, the Skles Trek offers a vivid cultural experience that strengthens bonds between visitors and the lively villages in eastern Nepal.
Biodiversity of Sikles Trek:
In the remote areas of eastern Nepal, the Sikles Trek provides an amazing voyage through a varied and unspoiled wildlife. Hikers see a variety of flora and wildlife that are exclusive to this area as they travel through verdant forests, alpine meadows, and harsh terrain. The hike passes through a variety of natural zones, from lower elevation subtropical forests to higher alpine environments. Many wildlife species, including the Himalayan black bear, red panda, and other deer and monkey species, find home in these forests, which are brimming with diverse plant species including rhododendrons, oak, and pine trees.
Along the Sikles Trek, there are numerous streams, rivers, and waterfalls that provide tourists a chance to observe a range of aquatic ecosystems in addition to the abundant terrestrial biodiversity. These bodies of water are home to a wide variety of aquatic creatures, such as fish species including mahseer and trout, amphibians, and aquatic invertebrates. Birdwatchers will be excited when they see a wide variety of bird species, including eagles, gorgeous pheasants, and the Himalayan Monal, Nepal’s national bird. The walk helps save the environment while providing participants with an opportunity to witness the biodiversity and natural beauty of eastern Nepal through ethical hiking methods.
Climate of Sikles Trek:
The climate along the Sikles Trek varies with the changing seasons and altitude, offering trekkers a diverse range of weather conditions throughout the journey. During the spring and autumn seasons, which are considered the best times for trekking, the weather is generally mild and stable. Spring, from March to May, brings warm temperatures ranging from 10°C to 20°C (50°F to 68°F) during the day, with blooming rhododendrons adding vibrant colors to the landscape. Autumn, from September to November, offers clear sikles and moderate temperatures similar to spring, making it ideal for trekking with daytime temperatures ranging from 10°C to 20°C (50°F to 68°F).
On the other hand, the region experiences intense rainfall during the summer monsoon season, which runs from June to August, turning the routes into muddy and difficult terrain. Hikers should prepare for excessive humidity and temperatures between 15°C and 25°C (59°F and 77°F) during this period. The rainy season is not ideal for trekking because it also brings with it the risk of landslides and leeches.
The winter months of December through February provide cooler weather, particularly at the trek’s higher altitudes. Temperatures throughout the day can vary from 2°C to 10°C (36°F to 50°F), with evenings frequently falling below freezing. It is possible to experience snowfall, especially at higher elevations, which increases the difficulty but also presents serene, snow-covered scenery to intrepid hikers.
Accommodation in Sikles Trek:
“Touch the Himalaya” will arrange for accommodation along the trekking route. A variety of tea houses, homestays, and budget lodges can be found sporadically throughout the Sikles Trek’s walking route. Trekkers can find basic yet cozy tea houses managed by local families in villages like Sikles and other isolated places. Trekkers are able to fully immerse themselves in the local culture and hospitality despite the simple yet authentic accommodations. Trekkers can sample traditional mountain food at these tea shops, which frequently serve robust Nepali dishes made with ingredients that are found locally.
Trekkers may also get the chance to stay in homestays, where they may get a firsthand look at the friendly hospitality of the locals. A more personal cultural encounter is offered by homestays, which let visitors engage directly with their hosts and discover more about their way of life. Typically, homecooked meals that highlight regional characteristics and flavors are served during homestays. While lodging choices along the Sikles Trek may differ in terms of amenities and comfort, each provides a special chance for hikers to engage with the eastern Nepali landscapes and local culture.
