For an Upper Mustang Tour, All foreigners need specific permits because the region is classified as a restricted area in Nepal. Here are the required permits and their cost details:
Note: You must be in a group of at least two people to obtain this permit. Solo travelers cannot apply for the RAP.
Trekkers’ Information Management System (TIMS Card) Also requires for safety purposes, especially in remote areas.
These permits are only issued through registered trekking/tour agencies. Independent travelers cannot obtain the RAP on their own. Carry multiple copies of your passport and passport-sized photos to apply for the permits. Always keep your permits with you during the tour, as they will be checked.
You’ll enjoy simple but tasty meals, including Nepali dal bhat, Tibetan thukpa, momos, and Western dishes like pasta and pancakes. Snacks, tea, and coffee are also available. The menu gets more limited as you go higher.
Food is fresh but simple, with limited options in remote areas.
Stay in basic teahouses with clean rooms, warm blankets, and shared bathrooms. Electricity and hot water are available in most places but may cost extra. Don’t expect luxury—comfort and coziness are the focus!

Local Bus/ Shared Jeep: Budget-friendly option but less comfortable. Available between Pokhara, Jomsom, and Kagbeni.
Private Van/Car: Can be used up to Pokhara or Jomsom, but not recommended beyond due to rough roads it is Limited Access.

Location and Highlights: Upper Mustang is in the north of Nepal, close to the Tibetan border. This area is known as the “Last Forbidden Kingdom.” You will see Lo Manthang, ancient monasteries, caves, and colorful landscapes that feel like another world.
Duration Of this Tour: The tour takes about 7 to 10 days, depending on your schedule. We can also customize the trip to make it fit your time.
Transportation: We use 4×4 jeeps to make the journey comfortable on the rough roads. You might also take a short flight to Jomsom if you want to avoid long drives.
Best Time to Visit: The best time to visit is:
Spring (March–May): Clear skies, warm weather, and flowers blooming.
Autumn (September–November): Cool weather, bright views, and no rain.
Winter is cold, and monsoon makes the road slippery, so it’s better to avoid these seasons.
Permits: To enter Upper Mustang, you need a special Restricted Area Permit, which costs USD 500 for the first 10 days. Don’t worry—we will handle all the permits for you!
Accommodation: You will stay in simple but cozy teahouses or lodges. The rooms are clean, with basic facilities like beds and blankets. Don’t expect luxury, but it’s warm and comfortable.
Food: Meals include local Nepali food like dal bhat, noodles, soup, and Tibetan-style dishes. There are also some Western options like pasta and pancakes in most places.
Altitude and Acclimatization: Upper Mustang is at a high altitude (around 3,500–4,000 meters), so it’s important to go slowly and drink plenty of water to avoid altitude sickness.
