Lord Shiva Temple is the oldest Hindu temple in Kathmandu, Nepal. The temple holds significant historical and spiritual importance and is considered pre-Vedic according to ancient texts such as the Nepal Mahatmya and Himvatkhanda of the Skanda Purana, the deity here gained immense fame as Pashupati, an incarnation of Lord Shiva. Historical records trace the temple’s existence as far back as 400- CE. The temple’s architecture features an intricately ornamented pagoda that houses the sacred linga of Shiva. Numerous legends describe the origins of the temple.
