Nine Days Everest Base Camp Trek Itinerary

Day 1: Fly to Lukla and Trek to Phakding (2,610m)
We begin our journey with a scenic 30-minute flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, offering amazing views of the Himalayas. After landing, we meet our porters and start trekking through small villages, green hills, and along the Dudh Kosi River. The trail is relatively easy and takes us to the peaceful village of Phakding. It’s a short hike today, helping us adjust to the altitude slowly. We spend the night in Phakding, surrounded by natural beauty.
Day 2: Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3,440m)
Today’s trek is more challenging as we gain altitude. We follow the Dudh Kosi River, crossing suspension bridges and passing through pine forests and villages like Monjo and Jorsale. We officially enter Sagarmatha National Park here. The final two hours are a steep uphill climb to Namche Bazaar, the largest town in the region. Along the way, we might catch our first view of Mt. Everest. We stay overnight in Namche, where you’ll begin feeling the mountain atmosphere.
Day 3: Trek from Namche to Pangboche (3,930m)
We leave Namche behind and continue on a scenic trail offering amazing views of Everest, Ama Dablam, and other peaks. The path is mostly easy until Tengboche, where we visit the famous monastery. After lunch, we walk downhill through forests and cross a suspension bridge. Then, we hike uphill to reach Pangboche, one of the highest permanent settlements in the region. We explore the ancient Pangboche Gompa and settle in for the night surrounded by snowy peaks.
Day 4: Trek from Pangboche to Thukla (4,620m)
Today’s trek takes us higher as we continue climbing toward the Everest region. We pass through Pheriche, a small village where many trekkers and climbers rest. The landscape begins to change, becoming more rocky and barren as we climb. The air feels thinner, so we take it slow. After Pheriche, we follow a trail to Thukla, a small settlement. It’s a quiet area, perfect for resting before the big day ahead. We stay overnight at Thukla.
Day 5: Trek to Everest Base Camp (5,170m) & back to Gorak Shep (5,180m)
We begin our day trekking to Gorak Shep, where we stop for lunch. Then, we continue toward Everest Base Camp. The trail is rough, crossing the Khumbu Glacier and rocky terrain. At Base Camp, you’ll see tents of climbers preparing for Everest ascents, and enjoy views of the icefall and surrounding mountains. After spending some time taking photos and soaking in the achievement, we return to Gorak Shep for the night. It’s a tough but rewarding day.
Day 6: Hike to Kalapathar (5,550m) & trek to Pheriche (4,280m)
We wake early to hike up Kalapathar for the best view of Mt. Everest. The climb is steep but short, and at the top, you’ll get unforgettable panoramic views of Everest, Nuptse, and surrounding peaks. After taking photos, we descend back to Gorak Shep for a light meal. Then, we begin our return journey downhill to Pheriche. Breathing becomes easier as we lose altitude. We reach Pheriche by evening and enjoy a restful night after a big day.
Day 7: Trek from Pheriche to Namche Bazaar (3,440m)
We continue descending through the Himalayas. The trail takes us past familiar villages like Tengboche, where we stop briefly, and Phunki Tenga. As we descend, we notice trees and greenery returning to the landscape. Eventually, we reach Namche Bazaar. After many days in the high mountains, Namche feels lively and comfortable. You can relax, enjoy fresh food, reconnect with the world through internet, or visit local cafes and bakeries. We spend our final mountain night here.
Day 8: Trek from Namche Bazaar to Lukla (2,860m)
This is our final trekking day. The trail mostly goes downhill, following the Dudh Kosi River. We cross several suspension bridges and pass familiar villages like Monjo, Phakding, and Ghat. While the path is easier than before, it’s still a long walk that takes about 7 hours. Once we reach Lukla, we celebrate completing the journey with our team. It’s a great time to reflect on the adventure before flying back to Kathmandu the next morning.
Day 9: Fly from Lukla to Kathmandu (1,350m)
We catch an early morning flight from Lukla to Kathmandu, usually around 30 minutes long. The flight offers a final chance to see the snow-capped peaks from above. Once we land, our guide will take us back to the hotel in Kathmandu. The rest of the day is free to rest, shop for souvenirs, or explore the city. It’s a relaxing end to an incredible journey through the Himalayas and to Everest Base Camp.
