It’s Safe to Vacation in Nepal

It’s Safe to Vacation in Nepal

I’m Americna and spent the past month in Nepal. Two close friends of mine own this trekking company and have been doin an excellent job.

I have received many questions about trekking in Nepal at this time. Most trekking companies here have suffered huge losses in business because foreigners immediately starting backing out of planning treks when the first earthquake happened. Many foreigners even here in Kathmandu I have talked to have told me their fears of trekking. “If we trek, will we be taking food away from starving people?” Or, “is I selfish and wrong to trek?” Here’s the truth about trekking at this time. Several treks are still open and trekking companies are ready at this time to trek, and all will be available for sure in a moth from now. Everyone here has been busy collecting money for friends and family and returning to their villages to support them.

Because they have been doing this instead of running their regular businesses, a month from now they will go hungry if tourism does not pick up again. You’re not taking food from hungry people. In fact, it’s quite the opposite. If you choose to cancel your treks or choose a different country, you will further the suffering of Nepali people because the thousands of people who rely on tourism will go hungry! The economy will crash as tourism dies off, it has already begun, and people won’t be able to continue to support rebuilding of their home villages if they don’t receive e their regular income from tourism. So, it’s very important you continue to come and support the tourism industry here.

The REAL situation for tourism in Nepal: -Currently Annapurna Area (Annapurna round, Ghorepani, and Annapurna base camp), Upper Mustang, Everest Base Camp and Gokyo, and Kanchanjanjha are ALL available and safe now. -Langtang is not available now. You can have fun and help Nepal, too. For a list of operating trekking companies, feel free to contact me. Safe travels, and trek on! We love Nepal!
