The Nepal Tourism Board and Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN) have implemented a program called TIMS, which stands for “Trekkers’ Information Management System,” to guarantee the protection and safety of trekkers in Nepal.

WHY TIMS IS NECESSARY ?

Every international trekker entering Nepal is required to have a TIMS card, which acts as a tracking system and keeps track of details including name, age, gender, nationality, route taken, length of trek, and emergency contact information. When there is a crisis or need for search and rescue efforts, this information is given to the relevant authorities.
The TIMS card also helps in the regulation of the trekking sector by banning unauthorized and illegal trekking operators from offering services in Nepal. Also, it guarantees that trekkers receive the most basic amenities, including medical examinations, rescue operations, and travel insurance.
